This Simple Change Will Make You a Better Writer

This Simple Change Will Make You a Better Writer In this fast-paced world of instant messaging and one-click shops, honest-to-goodness patience is almost unheard of. But as many experienced freelancers will tell you, you need to be patient in order to be a better-versed, better-paid writer. So how exactly can we practice this virtue without losing our impatient minds? Accept and understand the nature of freelance work. Freelance writing work, especially if youre very new to the business, tends to ebb and flow. Building your portfolio, finding clients, promoting your services, and reaching out to other writers takes a while. There will also be times when you need to wait weeks and months at a time to hear back from an editor or constantly follow up on a client because of their overdue invoice. The sooner you accept that there’s a lot of waiting involved, the faster you can focus on important things, like improving your craft and knowing what to do while you wait. Enjoy the process of writing. Learn (or relearn) to enjoy writing, the actual act of putting words on paper (or on screen). Enjoy researching and compiling sources. Enjoy coming up with blog topics and pitching them to editors. Enjoy planning your projects or outlining your blog posts. Enjoy these processes and not just the rewards. When you enjoy writing for the sake of writing, waiting for results and compensation becomes easier because your satisfaction and happiness won’t hinge on other people’s responses. Besides, using money and recognition as motivation may be good in the beginning, but not in the long run. Extrinsic motivation may be detrimental to your creativity something you need a lot of in writing. Plan your next step. You’ve heard what they say about idle hands. So instead of doing the devils work, busy yourself with activities that’ll help you grow your business and improve your skills. Maintain daily and weekly to-do lists to keep you focused and provide you direction. Here are a few examples of what you can do while waiting to hear back from people: Start reading those books and ebooks you’ve always wanted to read. Look for blogs that pay for guest posts and pitch them. Keep in touch with old clients and check if they have more work for you. Research and outline your next blog posts. Engage in unnecessary creation to keep your creative juices flowing. Streamline your social media management. Know when to stop waiting. There’s a limit to the amount of time you spend waiting. Some blogs and websites are kind enough to indicate how long it’ll take for them to respond to your queries, while others aren’t so clear. When it isn’t clear, wait for a few weeks before politely following up (unless their guidelines indicate otherwise) on your query. Being impatient for results is a reflex reaction most of us have. But with the right mindset, a plan, and genuine love for writing, you can learn to take the time and enjoy the journey and and the challenges along the way.

Fake US Soldiers Robbing Women Online

Fake US Soldiers Robbing Women Online The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) warns that women in the U.S. and around the world are being scammed by persons pretending to be U.S. soldiers deployed in war zones. CID warns that these fake soldiers promises of love and devotion only  Ã¢â‚¬Å"end up breaking hearts and bank accounts.† According to CID, the pretend heroes sink so low as to be using the names, ranks and even pictures of actual U.S. soldiers - some killed in action to target women 30 to 55 years old on social media and dating web sites. We cannot stress enough that people need to stop sending money to persons they meet on the internet and claim to be in the U.S. military, said Chris Grey, Army CIDs spokesman in a press release. It is heartbreaking to hear these stories over and again of people who have sent thousands of dollars to someone they have never met and sometimes have never even spoken to on the phone. According to Grey, the scams typically employ clever, romantically worded requests for money to help the fake â€Å"deployed soldier† buy special laptop computers, international telephones, military leave applications, and transportation fees needed to keep the budding â€Å"relationship† going. Weve even seen instances where the perpetrators are asking the victims for money to purchase leave papers from the Army, help pay for medical expenses from combat wounds received, or help pay for their flight home so they can leave the war zone, said Grey. Victims who get worried and ask to actually talk to the fake soldiers are typically told the Army does not allow them to make phone calls or that they need money to help keep the Army internet running. Another common thread, according to Grey is for the soldier to claim to be a widower raising a child or children on their own. These perpetrators, often from other countries, most notably from West African countries are good at what they do and quite familiar with American culture, but the claims about the Army and its regulations are ridiculous, said Grey. Report Them All forms of financial fraud, which is exactly what these fake, love for money soldiers are trying to pull, can now be reported through the StopFraud.gov website Military Leave is Always Earned, Never Bought No branch of the U.S. military charges service members money for permission to take leave. Leave is earned, not purchased. As the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command recommends: Never Send Money - Be extremely suspicious if you are asked for money for transportation costs, communication fees or marriage processing and medical fees. In addition, be very suspicious if the person you are corresponding with wants you to mail anything to an African country. Where to Turn Them In If you suspect or know you have been victimized by a fake soldier scammer, you can report the incident to the FBIs Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Out of a concern for the safety and privacy of their servicemembers, all branches of the U.S. military have removed their web-based, online personnel locator services. Scams Targeting Veterans, Military Personnel, and Retirees In another despicable outgrowth of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the IRS warns of email phishing scams targeting veterans, current military personnel, and retirees receiving VA disability benefits. The emails falsely claim that individuals currently receiving disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) may be eligible to obtain additional funds from the IRS. The emails come from a bogus outfit calling itself Defense Finance and Accounting Services, and while the email address ends with a â€Å".mil† domain, it is not a legitimate government military email address. The email promises the victims that by sending copies of their VA award letters, income tax returns, 1099-Rs, Retiree Account Statements, and DD-214s to a colonel at an address in Florida, they can receive additional money from the IRS. Of course, as the IRS points out, they cannot and will not. In fact, by giving the non-existent â€Å"colonel† the personal financial information shown on the requested documents, the victims could face financial disaster. To avoid falling victim to this or similar scams, the IRS reminders taxpayers to watch out for the following: Fictitious claims for refunds or rebates based on false statements of entitlement to tax creditsEmails from unfamiliar senders asking for personal informationInternet solicitation that direct individuals to toll-free numbers and then solicit Social Security numbers or other personal information The IRS never contacts taxpayers by email. The IRS initiates most contacts with taxpayers through regular mail delivered by the United States Postal Service.

Will the Internet Kill Television Research Paper

Will the Internet Kill Television - Research Paper Example Since the internet began to get a foothold among the younger members of our society, television watching has slowly seen a decline in its demographic. With teenagers opting to spend more of them viewing time online due to the vast variety of available viewing material and the ease with which they can access the same. The constantly evolving faces of the computer has allowed teenagers and people in general, to bring their entertainment with them on the road, never missing an episode of their favorite program or the premier of a much awaited and talked about show. The internet has in effect, changed the television landscape as we know it. This paper will use the most up to date information culled from scholarly sources that will help me to shed light of the question â€Å"Will the internet Kill Television?† Using a variety of factual data, I will attempt to bring discussion closer to those involved for a better understanding of the topic. In conclusion, I will make a prediction about how I see the viewing habits of people 10 years from now and if it will still involve television viewing, or a dominance of internet viewing instead. 1. What does scholarly research have to say about teenagers and the amount of television they watch? Will these trends broaden to include other demographic groups? Experts have said that up until 2008, teenagers have spent an unhealthy amount of time in front of the television. During this period of time, teenagers were observed to have been spending more than 30 hours of their time daily watching the boob tube. Longer exposure time to television screens were also seen to have spiked during the high school years of these individuals. Tracie A. Barnett, PhD., who led the observational study in 2008 explains that: â€Å"Boys and those whose parents had lower educational attainment were much more likely to be in the 'high-screen time' group. Teens with high levels of screen time may be at increased risk of obesityâ€Å" (American Heart Association n. pag.). This was the analysis that her team concluded after observing 1,293 students in Montreal high schools. The study was conducted using a combination of surveys and questionnaires four times a year covering a span of 5 years. These figures have changed over the past 4 years though. By the time 2012 rolled around, the European Travel Commission TrendWatch indicated that there was a significant shift in the television viewing habits of teens. They were now more preoccupied with watching internet based content than television streamed content. This is attributed to the increasing shortening attention span of most teenagers today. Their data indicates that these teens are connected 24/7 and being constantly online has changed the way that they use their television screen time (â€Å"Demographics† n. pag.): 23% of all teens (aged 13 to 17) own a tablet, 27% when it comes to girl - 80% own a computer - 78% own a cellphone and 37% a smartphone. It was noted in the study however, that the â€Å"hyperconnected generation† as their generation has become known, gains a positive influence from being more connected to their computer screens than their television screens. Although concerns about becoming gadget independent, shallow consumers of information, and instant gratification, which were also concerns raised by experts when television was first beginning to gain a foothold in our society, still exists and does not show

Business International Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Business International Law - Essay Example However, this fund is just made accessible after the country requiring the loan has applied certain structural adjustment program (www.imf.org). Structural Adjustment Programs (also known as SAPs) are economic policies created by each country but having shared common principles. These common principles include the devaluation of currency against the dollar, export-led development, privatization, and improved free market practices. States following SAPs are usually obliged to balance their budgets, release import and export limitations, and lessen or stop state subsidies as well as price controls. While the IMF obliges states to make an effort to balance their budgets, they object to the plan of raising taxes. As an alternative, states practicing SAPs are generally required to cut expenses for education, healthcare and social services (Battikha, 2002). These SAPs are the chief cause of such a quarrel over the International Monetary Fund. However, using a liberal view it can be seen that in 'most' of the cases SAPs hurt the states more than they aid. The execution of SAPs has become the source of riots and disputes. Algeria can be taken as an example of it. In October 1988, riots were caused due to the high prices and increased unemployment caused by the implementation of SAPs. During the riots more than 200 people were killed. In order to support this point some more examples would be helpful. Like during the riots in Jordan, due to the increase in prices brought about by SAPs, five citizens were killed in April 1989. In Venezuela, from February 28th to March 2nd, 1989, approximately 600 inhabitants were killed and more than 1000 injured as riots broke out because of the increase in fuel and public transportation prices, caused by SAPs (www.Whirledbank.org). IMF worked in Thailand during 1980s when the state was facing a depression resulted due to a rise in the price of oil, decrease in the costs of agricultural exports, heavy burden of foreign debts and deficit in the external financial accounts. A stabilization program was designed for Thailand which was supported with a strategic structural adjustment program and was implemented with a joint effort of The World Bank and IMF. This helped Thailand to recover from the financial instability it was going through from. Furthermore it is established that the similar instruments which were used by the IMF in tackling

Understanding the Global Environment Essay Example for Free

Understanding the Global Environment Essay Globalization can be defined as a process whereby goods, services, labor and capital are moved around the globe (Friedman, 2000). This movement in most cases than not is a harmonized one with interconnectedness that is institutionalized. There is usually a set of relations that are global in nature that are established to ensure that the resources found in the world though in short supply, are used efficiently. The movement is acknowledged to the rise in economic integration globally that has in turn increased investments and trade. The world due to globalization is turning into a global village in that it is headed towards living in a world without borders. In a nutshell, globalization is a transformational process whereby the local phenomenons are transformed into global ones. The people in the universe are undergoing the process of being united into a single societal unit that functions as one (Ulrich, 2000). The globalization process entails bringing together of sociocultural, economic, technological and political forces. The economic aspect is more vivid in that a national economy is incorporated into international economies as a result of imports and exports trade, foreign investments, cash aids and technology spread. Though there has been sharing and exchange of goods, knowledge and even services among people and countries since time immemorial, the technological development and reduction of barriers has quickened the whole process. The state is thus put in a state where it is accountable not only to its people but to the whole globe. States are somewhat powerless in the in light of these global relations to an extent that they may be unable to control their personal economies at least in terms of autonomous economic policy implementation. The interconnectedness brought about by globalization has reduced time and space overcoming barriers to social organization and economic growth hence allowing them to be worldwide in its operations. Therefore globalization is linked to the vast spread of new technologies (Giddens, 2000). Globalization affects each and every individual. It imparts in each individual a sense of belonging not only to ones country of origin but to the global community as a whole. Globalization has made most societies if not all come to realize that they need each other to prosper and no one can live in isolation. Globalization is not a new thing. Most of the recent studies of globalization are a appraisal of the previous one just modified with improvement in technology. With time man has evolved and come up with new things thanks to evolution in technology that have eased globalization as compared to the previous face of globalization. The first globalization wave is believed to have been between the years 1870-1914 followed by the second wave in 1960 to date (Jones, 1995). These two waves of globalization have there differences too. In the first wave, there was industrialization of the north and de-industrialization of the south. As a result, wide income discrepancy was generated between groups that were close. The second wave on the other hand de-industrialized the north and industrialized a big part of south if not all. Transport costs during the first wave of globalization were very high. This led to limited trade and the industries were very rare and stagnating. The high cost in transport contributed largely in the stagnating of industries having them scattered in the north and southern parts. Therefore it was very hard for entrepreneurs to interact hence impairing innovations and any progress in technology. The world was more like retarded in its growth. The second wave came with diminished transport costs. This led to high investment rate that led to the growth of the world market as a whole. Specialization was adopted that promoted and stretched trade (Sassen, 1999). The two waves can be said to be basically different but ostensibly similar. The first wave was marked by long term flow as compared to the second wave that was characterized by short term flow of capital. Advancement in technology in the second wave is what aided in the short term fall of capital that also included very high pace of exchange of information. Therefore, in the second wave of globalization, exchange of ideas was much more important than any other form of trade as compared to the first wave. The kind of trade that existed during the first wave was that of intra-industry foreign direct investment that was among nations that had similarities and focused on services, industrializing and outsourcing. The second waves nature of trade involved much larger intra-trade between similar states focusing on differentiation of products and economies as compared to first waves inter-industry trade. Second, the initial conditions are very dissimilar and this matters greatly. There is great income difference in the countries involved that is seen now which is the second phase as compared to the previous. This has great impact on policy making and the surrounding environment more especially in the third world. Furthermore, the 19th century trade and de-industrialization disillusioned countries such as India and made it very hard for them to embrace the laissez-faire trade and policies investments. On a more positive note though, the gap between the rich and the poor slightly narrowed on the second phase of globalization due rapid technology transfer (Friedman, 2000). Though there can be skepticism about the world becoming smaller in the sense that it is termed as a global village, globalization has brought a new wake of change evidenced world wide. The time has reduced in the aspect of conveyance of information, transport systems have improved thanks to technological boost and services like medical can be termed as international thought most of them are financially bound. The fact that the world is interconnected, many parts of the world still remain left out in the globalization network. These countries include much of the sub-Saharan Africa therefore presenting thus making globalization not so much global. Global implies that it is supposed to include every part of the universe and the way it is at the moment, the inclusion is uneven. According to history, capitalism is more of the driving force of globalization. With that aspect in mind, globalization has had ambitions to the world wide level with respect to resources and market. To some extent, globalization is just an extension of capitalism in an advanced stage not something utterly new. It has been done before with Aquarius and after that with postmodernism. Globalization should therefore not be looked at as a new phase in world history because it has not taken the whole world but just a part of it. The globalization process did not start the other day, it has been an on going process for centuries now all though currently much more experiences of the same are felt. Benefits of globalization 1) Economic growth in countries The countries that participate well with the world economies have had their economies grow much faster and consistently as compared to those countries that have detached themselves closing their borders to globalization forces. These countries that are open to globalization have had their economies growth rates increase to the rate of 2. 55% higher on average scale compared to those that are closed to globalization. (Friedman, 2000). 2) Improvement of standard of living and poverty reduction Globalization has brought faster economic growth to countries that have embraced it. Due to the high rate of economic growth, the people have had their standards of living improved and in the process poverty rate reduced. An effective example is India which due to globalization has had its poverty rate reduced by half. This is due to the fact that a wide product range is made accessible to people by the availability of cheaper imports and through competition, efficiency and quality production is guaranteed. 3) High life expectancy level Growth of wealth as a result of economic improvement that comes with globalization has led to access to not only good health care but also treated water. This has increased peoples life expectancy in that people are no longer dying from curable diseases; they have access to the medical services they require. Research shows that 85% and more people are expected to live for at least 60 years. This is twice as much years as it was expected 100 years back. 4) Globalization has led to the reduction of investment barriers. As a result foreign investments have increased in many countries boosting economies and creating jobs for the citizens in that country. According to research, these foreign investments by 2003 totaled to US$575 billion as compared to US$23 billion in 1975. 5) The world has become a global village thanks to globalization therefore leading to improvement and accountability as far as the environment is concerned. This is a positive impact to the environment encouraging people to conserve the environment by use of less polluting agents of technology. There is also the use of renewable energy resources in place of limited natural resources and promoting their imports and exports (Sassen, 1999). 6) Solving of international conflicts Globalization has brought with it increased interdependence among countries leading to the formation of institutions such as world trade organization and World Bank that aid in the settlement of inter government squabbles. This has enabled international tensions on political and economic issues to be resolved having set rules that are internationally agreed upon and using those rules as the resolution approach. This has booted peace in many countries because not many countries would want to get into conflicts with their trading partners. 7) Respect of cultural diversity Migration from country to another is as a result of globalization. People are free to travel to other states and this has led to awareness and appreciation of the diversity that is there in the cultures of the world. This has improved the democratic aspects of life and every person regardless of culture has his or her rights respected. 8) Globalization has led to improvement of technology in the global sense. This has in turn reduced the cost in communication, business and even education. Disease eradication has also been made easier because the world comes together in the wake of a new ailment to find its cure. Technology and improvement of modern communication has also eased the flow of information around the world. The whole world is put on the know if anything happens anywhere in the globe (Giddens, 2000).

The Impact Of Information Technology On Work Organisations Essay

The Impact Of Information Technology On Work Organisations The impact of information technology has significant effects on the structure, management and functioning of most organisations. It demands new patterns of work organisation and effects individual jobs, the formation and structure of groups, the nature of supervision and managerial roles. In the case of new office technology it allows the potential for staff at clerical/operator level to carry out a wider range of functions and to check their own work. The result is a change in the traditional supervisory function and a demand for fewer supervisors. IT has prompted a growing movement towards more automated procedures of work. There is a movement away from large scale, centralized organization to smaller working units. Processes of communication are increasingly limited to computer systems with the rapid transmission of information and immediate access to their national or international offices. Changes wrought by IT means that individuals may work more on their own, from their personal work stations or even from their own homes, or work more with machines than with other people. One person may be capable of carrying out a wider range of activities. There are changes in the nature of supervision and the traditional heirachal structure of jobs and responsibilities. Therefore the introduction of IT undoubtedly transforms significantly the nature of work and employment conditions for staff. The ma...

It does not matter if they are carrots and you know that you don’t like them, taste buds change, so maybe you will like them today. Deserts are rare in my house, but when they are offered you are not eligible for dessert unless you finish your dinner, including the vegetables. For exercise we do not have a formal routine, but we encourage outdoor activities as much and as often as possible. Television and game time is limited to one hour per day in our home and the time must be earned. The children receive a ten minute token for each chore that they complete and they can cash their tokens in after there home work has been completed. From whom does your family seek health care? When? My family seeks health care from our family doctor’s office. We receive our well care physicals each year and any immunization due at that time. We will also seek Healt h care if we have an illness that does not clear up with in a week. We have very few visits to the doctor’s office each year because most illnesses can be treated at home with rest and fluids.

Mobile Learning

Mobile Learning Mobile learning can be defined as any sort of learning which employs wireless handheld technology. The recent development in mobile technology allows students to access information and learning materials from anywhere and at any time. With some great benefits, mobile learning is becoming more important in the current educational system. However, there are some limitations which cannot be omitted. One major advantage of mobile learning is its high flexibility. This mainly stems from the advances of size and weight of mobile devices.Compared to books and personal computers, mobile devices are easier to hold and have higher portability [1]. According to Kukulska-Hulme and Traxler [1], learners are able to use mobile devices in dissimilar learning settings, ranging from informal situations to more formal situations. In other words, students can use their phones during spare moments. Boyes [4] believes that this property can allow them to make good use of ‘dead timeà ¢â‚¬â„¢ for studying. In addition, the touch screen display, as the main interface by which students control the mobile devices, might improve their efficiency of study. However, this could as well be a shortage of mobile learning, which will be mentioned afterwards. Last but not least, the mobile devices can be useful tools for assisting disabilities in studying. Although mobile technology is developing rapidly, there is no specialized device which is designed for learning. Ally [3] indicates that mobile devices are mainly designed for occupational purposes but not educational and training purposes at present. Consequently, these tools may not satisfy all the educational needs. For instance, the small screens of the devices, with poor readability, are inconvenient for students to read articles. In the meanwhile, long term usage can possibly cause serious health problem, such as short sight and blood-brain barrier. According to Boyes [4], battery consumption and storage capacity are a lso inevitable limitations of mobile devices. Moreover, Ally [3] thinks that connectivity might be another considerable hindrance to mobile learning. With limited bandwidth and wireless capabilities, learners can hardly access learning materials on mobile devices. The good capability is another compelling advantage of mobile learning. Nowadays, mobile devices are compatible with audios, images and even videos. Ally [3] maintains that learning materials in multimedia format are more stimulating for learners. To put it differently, these elements probably improve the originality of students. Besides, including multimedia components prevents the learning materials to be too dull. This can increase the motivation of students. Additionally, students can easily find numerous supportive applications using their devices. For example, students can find and learn some difficult words with the help of dictionary applications. Furthermore, online search engines are excellent assistants for inform ation collection. All the above mentioned tools can improve learning efficiency. Even though mobile learning has tremendous benefits due to its high flexibility and multimedia compatibility, it poses an underlying problem at the same time – lack of communication. In real life lectures, students are doing face to face interaction with the lecturers. They may raise questions or give feedbacks instantly while they do not have the same opportunity in virtual lessons. O’Driscoll [5] suggests that this may cause a suppression of creative thinking and developed ideas. Moreover, as noted by Kukulska-Hulme and Pettit [2], it can be easy for students to get distracted. Furthermore, as one-way communication does not promote mutual understanding between people, misunderstanding and conflicts may easily occur. This deficiency can lead to poor team work. Also, mobile learning cannot help improve specific skills, especially presentation skills. This is because students must practice th is skill in front of audience in real life. In conclusion, the high flexibility and excellent capability are two advantages of mobile learning. Some aspect of learning can be improved through implementing this innovative learning method. Nevertheless, some substantial limitations show that it is definitely impossible for mobile learning to replace the traditional learning. Instead of a replacement, mobile learning should be considered an integral to the current educational system. In my opinion, mobile learning is important presently. However, there is room for improvement. Battery consumption and health problem might be ameliorated by the future technologies. Mobile devices should adapt to the needs of learners, in order to be an ideal tool for education. Apart from that, infrastructures for high bandwidth and wireless capabilities have to be built to enhance connectivity for better access. References 1. A. Kukulska-Hulme and J. Analysis Of The Use Of Communication Essay Example

Analysis Of The Use Of Communication Essay Example Analysis Of The Use Of Communication Essay Analysis Of The Use Of Communication Essay Turning up in an academic family has a batch of assets ( and a few subtractions which I will advert subsequently ) . The house was ever full of interesting people, ever oppugning and larning and I grew up believing everyone was like that. My sister and I studied hard but it was neer a job merely what we did . She went on to read jurisprudence, which is a career topic and she is now a successful justice. I, nevertheless, read political relations, non as a calling topic ( I was comparatively diffident and there was no manner I wanted to be a politician ) , but as a agency to understanding what is political relations ( get downing particularly with British Politicss, for illustration Kingdom, 2010 ) and how that apprehension might derive me an penetration into the cogency and so necessity of development of different systems in different civilizations, and how the system in my native state fits into the overall theoretical accounts of political thought. I later took a B.Sc. class in International Business both to foster my linguistic communication proficiency and to understand more about globalization and what it means to different civilizations in other words, an extension of my political relations class but without a steadfast thought of where it was taking me. Indeed at that clip I was more interested in the chase of cognition for its interest instead than holding any peculiar ends. I was so fortunate to procure a really interesting place with a confer withing company working in the field of institutional development and technology, much of the work financed by the European Commission and in this administration I progressed from being a direction helper though preparation expert to project office director. During this clip I developed certain direction accomplishments, such as managing and developing a little squad, doing determinations, describing to higher direction and pass oning direction vision and scheme to the squad, be aftering the work load to accomplish aims and consistently commanding the procedure of activities against program, and most significantly I enjoyed what I did. I read widely and ever included the Economist and the Financial Times in my general reading, but at the clip of the credit crunch I started to believe more earnestly about where I was traveling and what I wanted to make with my life, which until so had been truly interesting and even merriment, but non really consistently directional. The more I read, and the more occupation chances I looked at, the more I realised what I did non cognize, or understand, particularly about concern. Looking back on it all I see this partially as an extension of my upbringing, which, as I already mentioned had some subtractions, and these decidedly in my family would hold included the fact that Business or Commerce was something that was deemed boundlessly inferior to academic chases, and about surely non for females. I had besides used my International Business B.Sc. class as an extension of my political relations class, and I had concentrated on civilization, linguistic communications and international issues, but had reasonably much passed by the rudimentss of Business . As a effect I did non understand the topics and surely non the slang of accounting and finance, of selling and gross revenues, of scheme, of policy and of leading, including facets of sociology and human resources that I had until so considered to be common sense . For illustration, I had trouble in associating to the motive of people, particularly in well-paid and professional concerns like British Airways, to strike ( BBC, 2010 ) , non to advert the mass work stoppages in Greece ( for illustration Guardian, 2010 ) and more late in France ( BBC, 2010a ) . Union outlook, nevertheless, I might good hold to understand if I am traveling to be a future director. This is but one little illustration of my deficiency of empathy with how big Numberss of employed people think, and what motivates them, and how struggles arise. Although I did non see myself out of work at that clip, in fact that is what I was. Already in my early 30s, without clear thought of my hereafter, I had been content to take what life threw at me and float along, but in a manner I was now taking clip out to be after my hereafter, even though it did non get down off like that. I was fortunate in being what Hallam et Al ( 2009, p.82 ) would name problem-focused, instead than emotion-focused, and I concentrated on specifying the problem , bring forthing options in an attempt to come to a solution which would be what precisely am I traveling to make with my life? By the Social Cognitive Career Theory of Lent et Al ( 1994 ) I had high ego efficaciousness, and believed myself to be in control of my ain life, and that by research and reading and analyzing options I would happen my best manner frontward. My research took two different waies. On the one manus I wanted to specify my ends, and on the other, holding defined them, I wanted to specify the road-map to make those ends. Again I read widely, both academic and populist articles and books, the most of import of which I have listed in a Bibliography, as there is no specific individual commendation I want to do, instead that those beginnings assisted me to specify what I wanted to accomplish in the short term and in the long term. I besides took a personality trial ( Knight, 2010 ) , based on Jung s Psychological Types ( Jung, 1971 ) and whilst I do non set entire trust on this, however it confirms that I should hold the ability when I have full sapiential authorization, to pull off and even take with assurance. My long term purpose, so, based on values that I defined as of import like pass oning with people, working with people, people development, every bit good as being portion of an international administrations and utilizing my European linguistic communications, is to hold a serious management/executive/leadership function in an international administration like the EC, in which I already have some experience, or the UN or similar. How to make that end? Looking at my cognition experiences and besides at my strengths, which include holding at least some direction experience, I decided that an MBA would most probably be the span to supply me the cognition to underpin the assurance that I presently lack to set myself frontward for such a function, and to outdo aid me to talk the linguistic communication ( i.e. slang ) of the people I would pull off and in this regard I wholly agree with Barker ( 2010, p 57 ) that the director is a jack of all trades . An MBA class would besides hold many other positive results, non least of which is run intoing people from different walks of life and backgrounds, and the womb-to-tomb networking chances that consequence. What about the downsides? I already mentioned the credit crunch and was cognizant that many directors in failed Bankss and fiscal establishments amongst other had been MBAs. How could this be? Surely the point about holding an MBA would be to be able rapidly to incorporate and move on different information, good and bad, in order to pull off state of affairss before they became black ( see for illustration Barker, 2010 ) . I believe strongly in corporate societal duty and would trust that this is an built-in portion of any MBA class. Harmonizing to Podolny ( 2009 ) values and moralss should so be an built-in portion of the MBA course of study and steps should be available to deprive alumnuss of their grades if they are found in breach. However Wylie A ; Piercy ( Wylie et al, 2010 ) takes a slightly different position, whilst accepting that the instruction of moralss and societal duty will so happen its manner into MBA programmes through pupil demand. On this point so I am satisfied that at least there is a argument and in my ain instance I will guarantee the argument continues at my class. Nonetheless I remain somewhat uneasy to happen out that MBA schools are ranked on a regular footing ( see for illustration FT, 2010 ; Business Week, 2010 ) on how much money MBAs make, instead than other non less of import results, which may nevertheless be much more hard to quantify. In drumhead, holding some limited direction experience, and happening that I enjoy organizing and pull offing people and undertakings, holding some limited experience in the EC and holding eloquence in the three chief EC linguistic communications, holding an in deepness involvement and cognition in international development and cultural diverseness, and concern, and desiring long term to be a senior manager/executive in either the EC or a similar international administration like the UN, I want in the following twelvemonth to carry through every bit much as possible to make full my identified ( and yet to be identified ) cognition spreads, in order to hold the assurance and sapiential authorization to accomplish the leading ends I have set myself, following a period of contemplation on what those would best be. Beginning Perl Tutorial on Foreach Loop

Beginning Perl Tutorial on Foreach Loop The foreach loop is a control structure thats tailor-made to process Perl lists and hashes. Just like the for loop, foreach steps through each element of an array using an iterator. How to Step Through an Array in Perl With Foreach Rather than using a scaler as an iterator,  foreach uses the array itself. For example: You see that this gives the same output as printing the array myNames in its entirety: If all you want is to dump out the contents of the list, you could just print  it. In that case, use the foreach loop to make the output a bit more readable. Youll see that this code creates cleaner output by printing a new line after each item in the list. A Cleaner Foreach Loop The previous example used $_ to print each element of the list. Using this default implied scalar ($_) makes for shorter code and less typing, but it isnt always the best solution. If youre aiming for a highly readable code or if your  foreach  loop is complex, you might be better off assigning a  scalar  as your iterator. There are only two differences: the scalar $name between the  foreach  and the list and the replacement of the default scalar with it inside the loop. The output is exactly the same, but the code is slightly cleaner. Keep in mind: A  foreach  loop is a Perl control structure. It is used to step through each  element of an array.

English-Language Learners Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

English-Language Learners - Essay Example Advantages Some of the most considerable benefits include better understanding of course material, better communication with teachers, and better exam performance. 1. Better Understanding of Course Primary language teaching helps both teachers and students. Teachers are able to transfer knowledge to their students easily. It is also easy for the students to understand the concepts in their native languages because of their familiarity with those languages. 2. Better Communication with Teachers Primary language also helps teachers and students properly communicate with each other. Students can ask questions to their teachers in their native languages, which is not easy if the communication language is other than their native languages. Moreover, students can also share their ideas more effectively with their teachers. 3. Better Exam Performance Improved exam performance is another advantage of teaching students in their primary languages. Students properly understand the concepts in t heir primary languages. As a result, they are able to deliver good results. Students are able to write what come in their minds. They do not have to translate their thoughts in order to write them on paper. Disadvantages Teaching in primary languages also has a couple of disadvantages. Those disadvantages include poor grades in international exams and decreased job opportunities. 1. Poor Grades in International Exams Those students, who get education in their native languages, find it difficult to show good performances in international exams because the testing language for most of the international exams is English. Students having less knowledge of English language cannot understand the exam questions properly which results in poor exam performance. 2. Decreased Job Opportunities Today, most of the companies prefer to hire such individuals who are proficient in speaking English language. Those students, who have less understanding of English, are unable to get high paying jobs. T hus, the number of job opportunities decrease for such students, which is a major disadvantage of being less proficient in speaking English. English Language Instruction I personally believe that English language instruction should replace native language instruction. The reason is that English has become a global language. â€Å"English language, as of today, has come to be known as the global language of the world† (Bahadur, 2012). If we analyze different languages that people speak in different parts of the world, we come to know that English is the language, which has the highest speaking rate. Yorke (2007) states, â€Å"English is a global language that allows many diverse peoples around the world to communicate when they don't speak, read, write, or understand one another's language†. People belonging to different parts of the world not only understand English language but also they can speak it well. English language has been included in many of the bilingual pr ograms, which validates its importance as a major instruction language (Marlowe & Canestrari, 2006, p. 154). The reason is that English is a language, which people use for medical, business, and scientific communication all over the world. Many scholars and researchers prefer to do their scientific and medical researches in English because of its high understandability and speaking rate. Countries can progress only if their citizens get high quality education from the best universities of the world. Today, the United States of
